We missed apple picking season last year. So this year I made a vow that we would go early in the season before the trees were picked over. Lucky for us the super hot summer had the apples ripening already. When I saw that Alldredge Orchards was opening up two weeks early we hopped at the chance to go apple picking in August! We were there the first weekend right as the barn doors opened for business! A smiling farm woman greeted us as chickens clucked in the background.
I really talked this experience up so the boys were oh so ready to get started. As expected they had a blast. Daddy lifted them up so they could pick their own scrumptious gala apples. We love doing new things with the boys. Especially when fresh air is involved. I’ll be the first to admit that the end of summer always makes me a little sad. But this year I am anxiously awaiting the cool crisp air of autumn. Our apple picking day gave us a beautiful sneak peek of what is soon to come.
Nice! We love doing that, but we have a little more time here.

Oh, I bet our apples are ripe early too! I’ll have to plan a trip this week, it’s one of our favorite traditions (and one of the best ways to make sure my kids are eating healthy and locally grown). I love the photos.

Most people don’t think about apple picking until late September or October. Because we had an unusually warm winter and spring, the apples are ready even earlier this year. If you want a better selection of apples, it’s recommended not to wait until the end of October! Even though it’s still summer, apple picking in August is just as fun!
Great pictures! I really can’t wait to take the girls apple picking here in Washington. I’ll have to look into the orchards and see when they’ll be ripe!
