Well, another year has come and gone. 2012 was wonderful in so many ways. But challenging in others. I think, in order to not feel like a failure, I need to stop thinking that each year has to be perfect. I need to stop believing that there won’t be hard times throughout the year. No year will ever be perfect. That’s just not realistic, is it? There will be things to overcome this year, of that I’m sure. But the good outshines the bad. It always does.
Last year I noticed that a lot of bloggers were choosing one word to focus on in the New Year. So I picked a word last year – POSITIVE – and I tried to focus on it. There were quite a few times that I didn’t succeed at being positive. But there were other times it worked like a charm. It’s easier to pick one word and focus on it rather than having 20 resolutions that you’ll never meet.
So I thought long and hard about what I wanted my one word to be this year. And suddenly, one day while I was trying to clean it came to me. My one word would be SIMPLIFY.

The word works because it can apply to so many things in my life. First I would like to simplify my home. If I’m not using it why do we need it? We’ve got way too much junk and clutter and it stresses me out. I’d like to purge, purge, purge. I can simplify so many parts of my day. I can simplify my blogging – by blogging when I feel like it instead of feeling the pressure to always have a fresh post up. I can simplify dinners by making a list and only buying what we truly need. I can simplify by not shopping as much, which lends itself well to our goal to pay off our credit cards.
It’s an amazing word – SIMPLIFY – and I just know that focusing on this word will help us live a more meaningful and purposeful life. This is better for me and better for my family.
What word will you focus on in 2013?

Good luck with your word this year! It’s a great one. (Mine is create.)

Mine is “intention.” As in, living each day with intention. Waking up and stating an intention for that day. It’s really helped me to focus and be PRESENT.
What a great choice for your word! I love it.
Simplify is a great word. We could all stand to live a more simple life. My word of the year is FOCUS.
